I thought the goal of qualifying with race fuel was simply for the “surprise”, to “spice up” the show (i know, rules to defer the fastest teams from being up front. crazy right?). It was an element of surprise because we didn’t know who had what fuel loads.
Now that we know what the fuel loads, why are we still qualifying with race fuel?
I understand, they still have to break up the show so all the sponsors get happy. Q1, 2 and 3. Fine, go ahead and make no sense with that rule – I mean, who on earth would want just straight forward qualifying for the elite motor racing series? Apparently we need elite qualifying too.
For what is the reason for the rule now? Strategy?
Imagine the hours of each persons life wasted on just handling and programming the computers and doing all the work when they had simulated every possible outcome for lewis in Brazil and got it totally wrong lol
That’s what the race is for.
Imagine what kind of discussions the drivers have at Barichello & Pals on Saturday night playing poker?
Driver 1: lol, I got pole. You suck.
Driver 2: But I have the faster car. You were just lighter.
Driver 1: So? I got the POLE. I get the stat. That added bit of cash my contract rewards me with every time i get pole. That fame in front of fans. For today, overall, I am the fastest driver. The kids want MY autograph now because I’ve taken pole 10 times over you this year.
Driver 2: Yeah – because you were light. I always beat you on Sunday though.
Driver 1: So what? So I wasn’t the fastest driver and missed the apex today in Turn 10. But thanks to our lighter fuel load, it made up the difference for my mistake today.
Driver 2: What it means is, when some kid is researching his new interest after stumbling upon formula 1, when he looks in the history of the sport, he’s going to say you were crazy faster and wondered why you weren’t ever in the winner’s circle. He’s going to look at you like the guy that never got a chance with a good drive. Almost, the underdog? This kid will start to develop their taste and likes and dislikes of f1 drivers. And wrongly so, they will fall in love with you. And for what? Because your sponsor wanted headlines and photographs of the car on the front sports pages for publicity? Classy, mate. Classy.
Driver 1: Psh, chill dude, you still get the wins. Between you and me, yeah – you’re faster. So what?
Driver 2: Qualifying is the only chance to get the show how fast you can be in optimal conditions. To just to see who’s truly the fastest over 1 lap. I am faster than you. I just wished I got the recognition I deserved for it, that’s all.
Driver 1: lol, I’m sorry. It’s not my fault dude. The team just abuses the rules to get publicity for sponsors and they give me less fuel and tells me to drive the wheels off the thing. And I do.
Driver 2: Why would a rulemaker keep in place rules that are being abused? Since it’s taking away from the sport, obviously. Away from MY paycheck. Away from the personal satisfaction from taking pole. You know? That satisfaction that you get because you love this sport? Now I can’t have it.
Driver 1: Man, you’re a crybaby. lol
The End
It is a matter of “why not?”
We’ve got the best drivers. The best cars in the world. Whynot provide the best conditions for them?
Drivers have spoken aloud about wanting this. You know, the same drivers who normally have to shut up so not to give team bosses and corporate sponsors headaches. That’s understandable though, toyota’s gotta claw back some of that $2.5bn with all that windtunnel and aero cost.
Cut engine cost. Been trying to cut aero cost. But now aero cost just double rofl.
Had to ax off half work force off at brackley so they could get some brand name drivers
I’m sorry, going off on a tangent.
Anyways, having the driver drive to his limits in a machine on it’s limits to produce the fastest possible time.
You know, if we took this idea of race fuel qualifying, imagine how original the Indy 500 and Le mans would look. Such forward thinking, they’d smash f1 right into the ground, surely. idk might be a funny idea though
No, let’s still qualify with race fuel, right? you’re going to say that? then why not just empty it, and go two seconds faster so a driver can COMPETE FOR FASTEST QUALIFYING LAP. YOU KNOW – DIFFERNT THAN FASTEST RACE LAP. FASTEST QUALIFYING LAP TODAY ISN’T THE GUY ON POLE. KINDA WEIRD DONTCHA THINK?
But then we’d get to see who’s the fastest drivers of the fastest drivers?? I wanna see that!
But wait, that’s not F1. that’s cart, or irl or gp2 or a1gp or something. awww shucks.
Kinda beauty of F1, isn’t it? Fastest drivers compete in a series where it’s never an equal playing field?
Some have even thought about rewarding that pole position with a championship point.
That’s debatable.
Can you imagine if they introduced rule to give point position to pole while keeping the rules we currently have in place?
People would low fuel just to get pole knowing they didn’t have chance to win even.
That’d be some REAL STRATEGY RIGHT THERE!
idk though, with point for pole AND race fuel, it’d be taking points away from teams that are truly the fastest, when in your race conditions. Points lost, positions changed in wcc, means undeserved lost money they get from ad revenue and such agreements.
kinda like idk.
if they gave point for pole, think barichello wouldn’t be allowed to get it at times? lol, not that he ever got the equipment, just saying.
boss says to win championship, Hamilton has to get pole JUST TO WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP OMG can you believe if that was the case? championship decided on Saturday?
idk though i mean kinda fishy.
just seems silly, $300m/year and they don’t want to reward something, like grid position, to finding which driver can bring the max speed from the most developed car in the racing world.
Aren’t these guys the fastest in the world? Why can’t we just for 1 lap, see how fast they can go? and maybe like, make it a part of the
grand prix weekend?
Don’t forget to hand out flyers at entrance gates at track to everyone to explain these current rules. after a couple of beers at the track, surely a newbie to the sport would be lost if he had to remember it all.
